Recording News: Two songs on-line featuring the new line-up!

"You are" and "Lay Me Down" have been recorded featuring the new line-up with Steve's thunderous bohdran now an integral part of the Furedaze sound and live experience. Both songs have been posted on the Firedaze myspace page. Check out both songs at www.myspace.com/dmusicartist. We're recording some more tracks and are working on a new radio friendly version of "Fighting For Strangers" at the moment. They'll all be revealed exclusively on MySpace, before we get round to putting them on an EP later in the year.

Live News: Gig dates - some happening, some not, some being rescheduled

The gig at Mick's Open Mic at the Newbold Comyn Arms, Leamington on the 16th of July is having to be rescheduled. Due to a mix up with dates it turned out that there was not a full line up available on that night. As soon as a new date is agreed with Mick the details will be posted here and on the Firedaze myspace.

Firedaze were booked to play the 7th Sun Festival in early August 08 - but the organisers have had some hassles with the police and licensing authorities - and as a result have had to pull the plug in the festival for this year. They hope to be back next year and if they are the band have been promised a slot on the bill. So instead we've decided to have a gig closer to home...

9th August, Jug and Jester, Leamington Spa
Kristy Gallgher will be the support for this one. Check her out on her myspace at http://myspace.com/kgunplugged. On home turf again, and hoping for a balmy summer's evening.

15th November, Queens Hall supporting Three Daft Monkeys
We've been invited back to support 3DM again - with hopefully more gigs to follow. It was a great night last time, so we're really looking forward to this one.

Other dates are in the pipeline - keep checking back.

Live News: Gigs Just Gone

July >>
Things have been a bit quiet in July for Firedaze. Part of the problem is the fact that some not very nice person has stolen the band's van AKA Bertie the Big Blue Bus. If you've followed Steff and String since Dead After Dark days you'll know that Bertie was always featured in the regular band newletters. After all those years its quite a loss - but in truth Bertie was nearly ready for the big garage in the sky - so maybe in the long run weve been done a bit of a favour. Plans for replacement band transport are being made!

June>>
The Jug and Jester, Leamington Spa
Despite the late notice of this gig in our home town, we had a fair turn out, and some very enthusiastic members of the audience. We did our best performance to date of "Da" which will almost certainly feature on our next CD.

May>>
History Fair, Rockingham Castle
hordes of re-enactors assembling for the weekend, getting drunk while dressed as pirates. Not seen anyone do the macarena to our stuff before, especially not while wearing assorted viking, mediaeval and pirate costumes. Great fun! Apparently they want us to do it next year as well.

Apr>>
The Sunday night support for 3 Daft Monkeys in Nuneaton was great. The place was nigh on full, and everyone seemed to have a good night. We were told we were 'awesome with a touch of Hazel O'Connor' which is a pithy and interesting (or should that simply be drunk?) review. Anyway, both headline act and venue have suggested it's a combination worth repeating, so check this space for future dates.

We had a photographer in attendance at the Queen's Hall, hence the new photos now appearing both here and on MySpace.

A couple of weeks later we filled a cancellation slot at The Crew in Nuneaton (downstairs to the 3DM venue), and found that "Rock On" was the surprise hit of the night.

Triality

The first full-length Firedaze album is now available. "Triality" features a mix of new songs and some more familiar material. Additionally there are new arrangements of a couple of songs previously recorded with different band line ups and we've included our own take on the classic "Fever". For more, audio clips of all the tracks and a free download go to the Triality page.

"Triality" is available for sale and you can buy right now from our label D-Music.

The album is reviewed in the January/February 2008 edition of Rock'n'Reel as a "blend of choppy bass-driven rockers, folk-style harmonies, bright, melodic fiddle and a New Wave rock edge." That sounds about right.

Folkwords also reviewed the album, in March 2008. "Firedaze are not easy to forget, hear them once and that thumping throbbing drum sequence and bass drive, enriched with rocky folk-fiddle groove will stay in your head..." You can read the full review on www.folkwords.com

BIG NEWS: New member

We put up the MySpace page in November, and in December we and bodhran-player Steve Bentley came across each other in the virtual world. He came along 'for a jam' in the real world in January, and we all liked what we heard, so he's now a fixture. So we are a 'triality' no longer. Is quadrality a real word? Steve made his first appearance with us in Worcester on the 16th of Feb, and has already been in the studio recording updated versions of a couple of songs from Triality. We've posted the first one on our MySpace page, and we'll put excerpts on here soon.

OTHER NEWS: String on the Listening Zone

This had disappeared for a while due to "website reorganisation" apparently - but its back now! You can now hear String talking about his experiences in the music industry. He's been in bands since he was at school and he knows all the things that all the experts say you should do in order for your band to "make it". Somehow the Hollywood Rock'n'roll lifestyle seems to have eluded him - but he's not down-hearted having found other ways to make money from music and still getting a real buzz from performing live. Websites

To stay in touch, you can be our MySpace friend - myspace.com/dmusicartist. Check it out to hear 6 tracks from the new album. We change stuff around as we feel like it! And don't forget that you can now buy the entire Firedaze catalogue on-line, via our label, D-Music.

We've also discovered that, along with loads of other bands, we've been automatically given a page on iLike - iLike.com/artist/Firedaze. We're in the process of adding all our info, but as yet, the website doesn't seem to be acceptng our songs. When it does, you'll be able to listen to everything on there (not just the six songs that MySpace allows). If you're on Facebook, Bebo or loads of other social networking sites, you can add us to your friend list.

Other FIRECDs

See Music page for details of all products. But basically, we have:

2007 demo CD, "Cheers". This features some of the tracks that appear on Triality, including Cheers, Will - a song that was first recorded by Steff and String's previous band, Dead After Dark. The new arrangement is altogether different and has plenty of room for "Cadenza Jen" to display her prowess on the fiddle

"Coming Home", released 2 years ago and the first CD to feature Jen on fiddle. This was an e.p. that featured a new version of End of the Light, plus previously unreleased tracks Coming Home and Too Smart, Too Soon. It was followed by "If Not Now When" which featured a new recording of If Not Now When, End of the Light and a cover of Fever.

"Labyrinthinitis", CD e.p. Contains four tracks (My Turn, If Not Now When, Gaia 2000 Re-Mix, and Fighting For Strangers)

"The Road", a CD e.p. of remixes of this Firedaze track.

"Firedaze", the original CD e.p.

The original promotional CD, called "My Turn", contains four tracks (End of the Light, My Turn, If Not Now When, and You Are). This was intended for gigs and reviews only, but is now available for retail.

FIREINTRO
Originally formed in 1999, Firedaze took a break from live work from June 2002, but after a personnel change, eighteen months of rehearsals and two retreats to the studio, they relaunched themselves on the UK live music scene in 2006.

Firedaze play "Roots Dance, the traditional music of the twenty-first century," a cross-over form, with elements of Dance (sampled and computer-manipulated rhythm and percussion tracks and loops, with Dance beats), Roots (frantic but folky fiddle and guitar parts, driving bodhran beats) and Rock (powerful guitar and bass parts). All with Steff's distinctive and strong vocals over the top and a healthy dollop of backing vocal harmonies throughohut.

In terms of personnel, Steff is on vocals and guitar, String is on bass and backing vocals, Jen provides fiddle and backing vocals, and taking the band to new strengths is Steve on bodhran.

The members of Firedaze come from a variety of musical backgrounds, but all have a keen interest in rock and roots music. They love making music that is contemporary, relevant and above all fun, and in playing music to be enjoyed.

Firedaze have taken the energy of Roots Rock, added infectious folky tunes on fiddle and electric guitar, layered the vocals, and then mixed it all with dance rhythms. The resulting sound is ever-changing, ever-fresh, and guaranteed to make you want to dance. If the fiddle and guitar don't get you, the rhythm will.

"This is not Dance as the world knows it, nor is it Roots. This is Roots Dance. This is Firedaze."

Now you can buy the entire Firedaze catalogue on-line, through our label D-Music.

The latest CD e.p. is always available free to any interested venues, festivals etc - just e-mail us with details, and we'll send you a copy.
