STEFF

MUSIC: Singer and guitarist in Firedaze.

I'm so glad we're back into gigging in a big way. Being on stage, playing music together with three good mates, and knowing it sounds good, is just the best. The band has moved ever onwards over the past five years, but since Steve joined us at Christmas, we've picked up the pace and really gone for it. The music is changing, our enthusiasm has been renewed. It's all good.

Anorak note: On stage, I play a Patrick Eggle LA or an Overwater Custom guitar, through a Marshall Valvestate amp, with a Digitech FX box. The amp, however, is like no other thanks to an enthusiastic techie who replaced all the boring gold and black knobs with a rainbow array of coloured ones. Strings are usually D'Addario, and on the LA they feel gorgeous. I sing through an AKG headset wireless microphone. As a band we use Logic on a Mac to create the extra dimension to our sound.

ART: Photographer and painter.

I have a degree in Fine Art and an MA in Photography, and am a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society.

I specialise in oil paintings and pastel drawings of semi-mythical subject matter, and in documentary, travel and art photography. I have taken part in many exhibitions under my full name "Steff Hutchinson". I do most of the design work for the band, including merchandise, CD covers, and this website (so now you know who to blame). There's a gallery of my paintings and photographs elsewhere on the web.

Anorak note: As a photographer, I uses a Pentax *istD digital SLR, Chinon and Pentax 35mm SLR cameras, and a Pentax 645 SLR medium format camera. In the darkroom I use Fuji and Ilford papers.

PROMOTION: Partner in D Music

String and I set up the business partnership originally to promote our own band, but it keeps expanding. D Music promoted Finnish band Varatie when they're in England, and club DJ Paul Morrell. We also promote other forms of our own music, from folk to dance.

Jen

FIREDAZE AGAIN

It's still early days for the new line up, but the stuff we're doing with Steve and Jen is sounding fantastic. Jen's taken the tunes I'd originally written using samples, and made them her own. She keeps telling us how much it's improved her playing, but we're just impressed at how much it's improved our band! And Steve follows a lot of what Jen does, punctuating the highs and lows of her playing. It's all good stuff.

We're loving playing live with the new line-up, and seeing the audience response. Mostly they love it as much as we do.
